Our Children Services, also known as R.E.A.L.
REAL – Reaching Empowerment and Achievement through learning
R.E.A.L. program participants will receive the tools, training and confidence that will take them to a higher level of success. Through participation, you and your family will know that it’s not what you can see; it’s what you can do. Blindness won’t stop you from being R.E.A.L!
Life Coaches and blind mentors will work with families, siblings, and students to ensure that blind Arizonan students are advocating for themselves to build confidence and taking part in everyday activities that are expected from their peers.
Now that we kept it REAL – how and who can get involved?
- If you are a blind student in Arizona up to Senior high school age…
- If you are a parent, sibling or family member of a blind Arizona student…
SAAVI Saturdays: Sleeping in on Saturdays? Why not get up and moving with our SAAVI Saturday programs?
You can meet with friends to learn about advocating for yourself as a blind student, learn skills to improve your everyday life, learn how to use the bus system and so much more! Spend your Saturday with SAAVI and keep it REAL!
NFB BELL Academy Sponsored by SAAVI: School is out for the summer but that means it’s BELL time! The National Federation of the Blind offers their Braille Enrichment for Literacy and Learning Academy each summer in Arizona where you can learn why Braille is important to integrate into your life as a blind student. For students aged Preschool through 8th Grade, this two week program is NFB and SAAVI partnering in keeping it REAL.
Real-life Coaching: Would you or your student benefit from more personal sessions? Our Life Coaches and role models will work with students and families in their homes, or in the community to keep it REAL in everyday life.
Tutoring: Join us for academic tutoring nights where we play games, practice skills and work on homework using non-visual techniques.
